  1. The point of view is a refugee from Guatemala trying disprove current negative stereotypes about undocumented immigrants. His point of view consists of multiple people telling him because of his citizenship status, and the general misconception that refugees do not positively contribute to society. An example of this misconception is that refugees do not pay taxes and rely on welfare programs rather than getting a job. Victor has been told his whole life because of his undocumented immigrant status he would never be able to accomplish his goals. Although he has had supporting characters along the way such as an elementary school English teacher and the primary support of his mother.

2. How did Vistor become a successful young professional despite having to face so many adversities as a refugee and how long the refugee process takes and the struggles and restrictions that Victor faced as an undocumented refugee?

  • What was happening in Guatemala at the time which made you leave your home country.

  •  Victor almost giving up after being told he could not go to college because he was          undocumented.

  • Traveling across the Rio Grande and the journey to the U.S.  

  • Adapting to life in the U.S./new start

  • Importance of Education in the U.S. What family had to do to get Victor to college

  • Impotence of his family including his mother and his two brothers

  • What are you currently doing in the U.S./ how is your new job and new life

 

4.  Open: basic introduction explains where he is from.

Transition: informal speaking between Shami and Victor about both of their refugee experiences

Middle: Journey to U.S. Everyone telling him he could not attend college while he watched all of his friends go off to college. What him and his family had to do to be able to afford his education, Completing his education, and adapting to living in the U.S.

End: What he is doing in his new job now if he likes living in providence. What the term refugee means to him and how he feels about the quest for refuge project means to him and what impact it will have beyond the classroom.
